ERRG designed, constructed, operated and maintained two separate groundwater extraction and treatment facilities to address trichloroethene (TCE) contamination at Former Marine Corps Air Station Tustin in Tustin, California for the U.S. Navy. ERRG’s value engineering analysis during the design process saved the client $100,000 by incorporating existing extraction wells into the system.

ERRG conducted investigations to refine design, including precisely locating the leading edges of the TCE plumes, delineating soil sources, identifying interconnected permeable zones within the subsurface, and evaluating hydraulic conductivities through pump testing.

ERRG designed the civil and mechanical treatment system components, developed project specifications in accordance with the Unified Facilities Guide Specifications, and worked with specialty subcontractors to design the electrical controls and pre-engineered steel building components.

ERRG also constructed the treatment systems, which included 8,500 linear feet of pipeline connecting 21 extraction wells to two treatment buildings each containing an influent tank, feed pump, cartridge filtration system for sediment removal, and a three-stage granular activated carbon adsorption system; domestic water, electrical, and sanitary sewer service connections.
